I apologize for my gap. Blogging is like working out - once you stop doing it you find an inertia in your inactivity. I'll try to be better. Since I've been gone I went to Busan, went back to the Seoul region, said goodbye to some dear friends, went back to Chicago for a month and a half, and came back here to Haensin-dong. That's a brief recapping - but honestly there isn't much to tell. I've been fascinated by the buildings here lately and blogger is the best format I know for large images. I introduce you to my study of the skyscraper apartments around where I live:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsS1vHAKCuzAiOY5TTeo5YwKcbfIIXbXp20tLpTK_blhhQmPLh9tGVC1KNA6EJCqcj0T8YgQfEgaLLdx9QNhGlOi3ASH-Gly7DmuUCylcg_WGIJEOOwwQOy54JMZBvw7HRDyBQBJsOEoFy/s400/IMG_1699.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5569079077607530034" />

This is my neighborhood, and the day is gorgeous:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiY4SUn-8q0x5hihw-MbiM8mHK7bF4GyjX-S_Le01GayulDpt_13WxweJYGIsSdN4sbOBGjxs18w3uVSIx8WfwWRKJajm3DKXJxvSAhwKPMu3OIZ4Tc-i4Rx6D4omsV5rzqPg3jb-G16zPp/s400/IMG_1700.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5569079533342360050" />

People love TV here, but who does't:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjY2pnQKLK4OaK-icdnaGSecVDGRQkg20vhP5wYvP0iI_NaGQpXIBUztPoSUSRVrg7AHjat79QQQ4lHfL0xqWWeSf3APvopuoldI9bZj9NrFjLYU_xzN9J35pphcMZ0653gMGfpnNgmRJXU/s400/IMG_1701.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5569080078483950690" />

It's got to be a cinch being a Korean postman:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5hel8m-lRsUa6-Vo1NqYQLWfhmLC0LtqT_TanqLpahyY7Eja6gBkXIQVGmpOfZRPKeAoJCOMLW3FG6bwQK01PO9Gdf5A_JPIgcUACsDPC2hK-bQcIFhyphenhyphenjfqDvDsA4qlNTfr6NKh8rMkAN/s400/IMG_1702.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5569080563616695970" />

Home to many of my students:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDu1MJsQHRA78EadQZV-JwqSYDbSwL9yb2vFtQVKlXig2LmKdpsu0NVhNPrZoKZVhJk9QXj5W7PH95q9ctkN5H2GryBkoflRkUpZuQmKodRtCsRueUDzE5_kaOJkcXDUazlTJf_Zhu3HW4/s400/IMG_1704.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5569080971181948546" />

Watch out for burglars! One was in a class with 9 students, which is my biggest class size. Now that might not seem like a lot to you, especially you real teachers at public school, but when you're in a very small room and those 9 kids are like 11 years old it can get loud. Really loud.

We have these textbooks where they have vocab words and I will look up the word in the English-Korean dictionary and they write the Korean for the word to help learn it. So I'm looking up the word 'sheet' as in 'sheet of paper' for one kid while like 6 others are yelling at me 'Teacher! Teacher!' for me to check their work on another part of the day's assignment. One end of the room is shouting 'Teacher Teacher! Check! Check!' while this other kid is yelling 'Teacher what is sheet?' which sounds like 'what is shit?' while I'm bouncing around the room, dictionary in hand, trying to do all things at once. Finally I find sheet and show it to the kid and he starts laughing. 'What is it in Korean?' I asked. 'Sheet-uh.' It's a borrowed in English word. We all had a laugh.

In another class one of my favorite students, a 10-year old English name Clara, asked me if I know A-Girl or something. I asked 'Is that a singer.'

'Yes' she said.

'Is she good?' I asked.

'Yes, very good!' Clara said.

'Is she cute?' I asked.

'Cute and sexy,' Clara answered. Clara is 10. I had no response.

Here are some photos from a walk I took today. You can usually see a mountain from here but it was way misty this morning:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZJKoF0yduc1nYfwFF-cFGdoHkdb52lqmE_1POdqdSQeQScuFhGy1BC2emtw0EQ3IvuV00w5UgeneS9lS3Ne7SnobcLf5QlAaIpe693Zwg3BzVCFxFol37VUF1X42-9bEYtsdAcnevSSY/s400/IMG_1403.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5517711342339386658" />

The typhoon a couple weeks ago took down hundreds of trees on this hill, and revealed that it's essentially a huge cemetery. It wasn't fun. Then she sat me down the next day and said they'd give me two months furlough and I could come back. I will talk to her at some point this week and ask for a raise on top of the furlough, and if they can do that then I'll likely be staying at my same job. That also means I'll be back home this winter!

One of my students, Ben, came into class really late last Thursday. 'How are you today?' I asked him as he walked in. 'Terrible, teacher,' he responded. I asked him why. 'Bird ddong (poop) on ME!' he told me, indicating a large wet spot on his pants where he'd obviously been scrubbing poop out of his jeans. 'And my tooth!' and he opened his mouth and showed me a molar hanging by a thread, covered in blood. That's a legit bad day!

From another one of my classes, here is a lovely phone charm a middle school student of mine has:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVOqrdxsbvrvleNFRPKkk-hFIj4fSvF8sTw7s4fe6SjFDAncy3MJKrvY1Z8eNznDuGm9oJvJpHTC-nWtH9noz4aN8WLnztBYLMpC9fcmp6Ph8qk3HYHgU1PG8mHHZHkartskjXuQ8jwJU/s400/Photo136.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5511780952288304498" />

Here are some of my students sharing tripe - yum tripe:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBNB0PSlNt3wsaprU4TM2MIu2nfR6CsSpx4t-2sFMi_Ab4Mwlh7MIb7rulwRvxk1GKkgXrVOLR8qtvqSuSoYUqY-mCGEQurur3db9bLnW8BS7vfiEYeGvY7cxX4nIR2R2UMUVsV8Niwwg/s400/Photo137.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5511781340294913922" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6163737689697792041.post-72165336320671143512010-08-26T12:53:00.004+09:002010-08-26T13:04:53.529+09:00Bad BloggerWell it was bound to happen. It happens with every blog in the universe - I didn't post for a really long time. My brother Joe came to visit and we had a blast partying it up around Seoul. We only had one fight - that was when I wanted to run his stinky rancid shoes through the washing machine a second time, and he wanted me to run them through the dryer cycle. I was arguing with him when I realized, 'Wait, he doesn't know what I'm doing on a Korean washing machine' and I ran them through wash again, saying I was running the dry cycle.

Wait, we had a second fight about a quote in Pulp Fiction. I thought the lady holding up the cafe was saying 'I'll electrocute every motherfucking last one of you...' and Joe thought it was 'I'll execute every...' Joe was dead right, dammit. Electrocute! What was I thinking? Hear that again Joe: YOU WERE RIGHT. I owe you some drinks back stateside.

By and large it was smooth sailing having Joe here, and wouldn't you know it, I missed him when he was gone. I was so used to living alone that it was a little bit of a strain having someone around, but then when he was gone I remembered again how it's kind of lonely living alone. That's okay, I'll live.

So today is the day that I'm telling my school that I'm not re-signing my contract for a second year. I'm in the process of finding a public school job currently, which if things go according to plan will start in either January or February. That gives me a delightful 2 month winter vacation. Basically I'm gonna tell my school that I want to go back to America for awhile, which is true. I'm not looking forward to telling them though.

That's about it. I have a good student story but it's for another day - I've already written too much. Here is my new go-to Korean meal: chamchee kimbap - that's kimbap with tuna and sesame leaves, with kimchi and a little onion broth:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhj1MZwAVClvzCNNs8H-JWU76zFamxxaEL2O5-rdOp9_DElZtJpSqSRsXbVqopoHN-buYZ9EQGyuefmlMPg1y84ESJYXtB5NxuDRjwVne8VIQZPrcPFfjUL-_SJDSRG6VKezgem31bsLhM/s400/Photo128.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5509564246894626546" />

This is one of my favorite students - Spiderman:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDL1QrYCz29eNTQ8oo-XDRhjWO-qC9xUI0MhGQacLKmy8DiObOxK3-pzrzfSo9bPSRmVLXZcuP8XRZc0pgHgBV_XujkME8E4qpdXIOYw3C1SwsTPrTz2VlesYqXxP8Fe-qPWIPFZdpIbI/s400/Photo126.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5509564490037707218" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6163737689697792041.post-47621088053595106982010-07-19T13:17:00.004+09:002010-07-19T13:23:20.773+09:00My brother is coming!Joe is scheduled to arrive here in Korea on Thursday and I'm pretty excited. The consensus amongst people living in Korea is that it's impossible to explain to people who haven't been here what it's really like. I'm looking forward to Joe getting a little insight to where I've been living for nearly 8 months now, and likely living for at least another year. I've got a very loose itinerary mostly consisting of eating awesome food, creeping around Seoul checking out the sights, shopping, eating more, drinking boozes and then a little jaunt to a Korean island for some R&R.

Here's a picture of Joe I drew on the chalkboard in class as an example for an assignment. You had to draw you sibling, tell their age and favorite food. I put 'Maekju' as Joe's favorite food. That's Korean for beer:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeXVsRrn7Dhl6KmAifKK5cGwYkh2EF8yXLHyWBStGwpDlL-S2YZwqNvQ0ljfd4Zo14KOu5WJhtZ8_hABN_rBA1RQ7vy70VeEmWftSuNAMp476eTEjHMonNdlc9IQAWk06B8UCZnMteJHQ/s400/Photo064.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5495467864423648322" />

And here's a little gem I espied on my nightly constitutional. Classes have been good, hanging out on the weekend has been good, the weather's been good - pretty much good all around. Here's a great quote from one of my students recently - I was grading one of the 9 year old's homework at the front of the classroom and I usually ask the kids 'How are you today?' Generally the response you get is 'bad' or 'so-so', but she answers 'I don't know'. So I peppered her with questions: 'Are you sad?' 'No' Are you happy?' 'No' 'Are you angry?' 'No'. Finally I asked 'Are you crazy?' She answered, 'Teacher, maybe everyone little crazy.' Brilliant!

We have snacks every day after my fourth class. Sometimes it's something good like meat pies from Paris Baguette bakery or kimbap, which is like a Korean style California roll. Sometimes it really sucks, like these multi-colored rice cakes with like honey flavored water inside of them:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixeXMYehKl8FALBqvXznD-K9DJVixY04BUOsaJKLTXHYvrbYijbarnzcgLv4PondNfol90VgQe9Pw9lF2ODJE4-o_0bt6alEhui2u2jdt2lorLbquiV7rDQJM0wysdo5LROn0oENi-5TM/s400/Photo109.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5493229381560307874" />

Or this green tea cake with like sugary butter as the filling inside:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKmow0d0xuguj598HTf4usTa0KMmxpzjnMRq5DLA5lhT8vVfS19GBaL4K43xidZ_C6K3hG29k3y2ImaYeo9Fxi9SEGSspkzBLm5UZFbKDC3meukgJCRg3h5S7B12sv_RGB53ITuuRNukM/s400/Photo097.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5493230221617195010" />

See how many copyright violations you can spot on this cover of one of our textbooks:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_kPMDNic4V08teq4GD7y7FxeGfD5W8d2iH4bb1UJnwI089TIQVxJikEd9R88LQr05dYZcpguaiIWW9nPdJXS8mIO_wSR2iwMj0Dai-XcGm7TN3QlASrUAu8eP8YPJNMGUdnkNFXkoajA/s400/Photo106.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5493230566543117298" />

You might have to click and zoom to really appreciate this next one. I had my first puker in class yesterday. This little girl Selena, who is usually so wound up with energy she is hopping around the classroom when I get in there. Well yesterday she was considerably more subdued, despite having a delicious looking chocolate popsicle to nosh on. She finished the popsicle and was definitely in distress. Another student informed me Selena's stomach hurt, then with her handphone dictionary showed me a translation that said 'stomach cancer'. 'She has!' Sally said, about Selena. Then she showed Selena this bad joke stomach cancer translation and Selena started crying. So far a bad first class on Monday. Well a little while after she was done crying all the sudden the kids were all saying 'Obite! Obite!' which is Korean for puke, and sure enough that's what went down.

The next few classes complained to me of 'bad smell' but by the end of the day no one really knew anyone had puked in the classroom. So I told my last class 'Today - my class - OBITE!' They wanted to know which desk it was. I told them I'd let them know at the end of the class. I made a game of it - had them all guess which desk was the obite desk (which was actually an empty desk in this classroom) then told them right at the end, grossing out the two poor kids sitting next to it. I just laughed and laughed.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6163737689697792041.post-8449985084486588302010-07-02T13:42:00.004+09:002010-07-02T13:52:17.985+09:00More student artHello all. Wow - it's July already. Incredible how quickly time flies here in Korea. I have 5 more months left on my contract - soon it'll be time to try to find a new gig here, hopefully at a public school and hopefully in Bundang. If any of my readers have any good info for me please let me know. Also if you know of any university jobs ANYWHERE I'm interested (and I'm an English major - bonus).

One of my favorite parts of class is when the students draw. They come up with some pretty funny stuff. The girls tend to draw way better stuff - the boys' art is usually messy and violent or wholesale copied from the book. Boring!

Here is one girl's rendition of a couple dreams that a mouse is having - one nightmare where a lion is threatening to eat her while another little animal ddongchims him. A good dream (?) where the mouse stabs someone, and another good dream where the mouse hangs out happily with a monkey:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMlCgRzXkMJaxCcRBavxV44ge_YJE2bAVpKLhDngAXV_b5VqpE3HOnmmL1Uo0FPhQnWsyCOTjpsYNyvpE02-RryFh4nzZfvmZ6tbxwHcBGeHWapzmCGO1zcjwX9UfA_69CFWcSUg9w7fY/s400/Photo104.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5489166594106478690" />

Here's another one of my student at breakfast. This has been my longest hiatus since I got to Korea. I don't want to become one of those dead blogs that you check and you're like 'Aw man, no new posts since 2009'. The summer in Korea is just awesome. It's hot and beautiful outside. Aside from that I have, like, friends now! So I've been hanging with friends and doing all sorts of stuff and the blog just fell out of my mind a bit.

Every morning I was in the habit of taking a walk around the area here just to exercise a little and people-watch and the like. A couple weeks ago my friend Taylor had some of his buddies in town and our English friend Allie recommended hiking this hill by us. So Taylor's friends and I hit it up and I liked it so much I've been back nearly every day since. It's a little hill with 4 peaks that's stitched through and through with trenches and bunkers from the war. Well from the war and beyond - the trenches are maintained by the military that has a base on a nearby hill. Let's hope we don't need to use them.

Taylor's friends Ryan and Mike on the hill. Solid dudes:

<img style="display:block; Well I wasn't prepared and didn't have any cellophane, but that didn't stop the kids from just sticking it to their face anyway. The kid on the left here is the quietest kid ever. His English name is Charles but he said it so softly that I thought it was 'Hars'. Well I'd never heard that name but I called him 'Hars' for like 3 months until I found out he's 'Charles:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdDsFN7io-sDG1dYMtsEE3QzD6wdG4KMz51n9ShOCDnNsjFXbCBYY4Wo5VwMGzRI-Q_UiITSW65K9GWFJszc1gKiTpDWX-AznGO00tTej4ahZTZxJ2IGiYCU2IzzZ094WSW7aRkVp8sk4/s400/Photo088.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5481373520218618210" />

This girl is really funny. They're often pretty unkind, but funny nonetheless. Here's a depiction of me I found on the chalkboard walking in to class one day:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf-Kjzt9pZ8A6dSO-QNK7OWLjui4yvAPiwx_KDpFLgc19nkDheU1U_vw4lLslXGkWcKBDHl6EcIhQL-fztLLKKv9w6epnb5DPx2-2CVzHwH_9lfvAjAuKHpicPRVcNE8_kpgP6CTBkY4o/s400/Photo068.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477668082269423890" />

One of my favorite students regularly depicts me with devil's horns menacing her with a weapon:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyQGdTwV7RjNfaDJc3ttjqSsE06CYJvX-0z-RNzRhS9A4TpVkkkTdVx_0pLRZxCr5GeFB1_A5-GtBmJZ8MXSJnW4Q2bsm0QxQr9xFfRLSkW8P1d9Qctaq8rO5TcjnQ2JwRMiL9nuHNkpc/s400/Photo081.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477668365043374578" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieViqPPHeQKMMP0LVr30FEBjrxPhNjupUR2zJGrCN8A4DAaiKffgRDl-bf4QUEJGtW-uTv90JOu7D0g9osRtDJjbeSmFDxpZTRZT9IiLVsqBd0T18VRykMRggR7HvqtyurVPKxSwUC1is/s400/Photo075.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477668599041827666" />

Every once in a while I get a kind depiction, like this one I found in Suzanne's homework book. II, the retreatOn Saturday Taylor and I headed to Seoul to meet up with the Pine Tree Club for their mini retreat. We took a bus 1 1/2 hours out to the country somewhere east of Seoul. I snagged the last seat on a bus packed with people, which left Taylor standing in the aisle. This was particularly infuriating because the guy sitting behind me had a seat next to him just full of a big box of soju and snacks.

By the by we arrived to a place with little cottages along a river surrounded by hills. We put our stuff in the cottage and proceeded with team building exercises. We played a game where we divided in teams of 20, formed giant conga lines and chased each other. We had a scavenger hung, a 3-legged type race where there were 3 of us tied together, then a race where there were ten of us tied together. Then we went inside and had some ramen and a samgyeupseul (bacon) and kimchi dish. This is Hyun cooking it up in the main room:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjW6zQbGN0PGKkcYkUfgEVuM44npIwu0ZXk19YHnFrO_yh6RpH13_jultSlyH4zMP9F1sr1cwo7U9zbqxRqt9QCmms_WsXev07FfE4HmC_UJYDZwszUz8WLdClQPkjCIlwl8G6Qg7h3bu4/s400/IMG_1224.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5475028145167625202" />

There were charades games and song games, then came the violence games. This one was where you had a balloon tied to your foot and the other people were trying to pop it. This is the all girls' game:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz9tHM5m-EBiyacasmbxkhuhywQRvYMP7dT8FEMMuj6g8B4tJbbfs6jo4pFlLgN-wWsvQZsMI_H-5VRlwMZZci5MGA7IyzLARc6PrC-4Yapebk2IgBfWfkPj-E3hBHU9vOCKSN8Q5eRaQ/s400/IMG_1229.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5474679961083283586" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXqdapGFtqPbdovv2rJJoNGtax86EXCrgYBrcq6vYXfhcwvhMczTZSuY4psn3GFyWRs8tuMgAzVl8lFEPyt4IUqtYcmsso-b2a25ha4pu7OicPSjbIql2xTBsRfy0t7lSWv9cfz2t5FSw/s400/IMG_1230.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5475030069453473042" />

I really didn't want to play but I was forced to. The guys had to play sitting down because the standing up game was way too dangerous, we soon found out. So you're supposed to shuffle around the floor without using your hands and kick and pop the balloons from a sitting position. It was impossible - I lost quickly:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixbkW488jU-3exOygTg_9nCAiLvz_1U0ZnqjvbrJrWnGpXe34cxpottuoIrFGHP7W3owYq_wtOUNnu06fnN5L6DCs-kcdg4vX85VLXL4-FXn-4-8M2ct3XiivAbAnUWjroZFwa0gIxgmk/s400/IMG_1233.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5475030317042512754" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAKXu9n3LZeN5eRn-zuXf5R-xPTZ34n23MHmts4gD3O39M6oni_HNWDuQfOZfxXs3NdDNpqB07QJ-2wKLULsc8ESDOmt8SYFiLX7k9gprRvfvp4KAEY43f3IKfUGhoEq1IqPsP2JV0_gY/s400/IMG_1236.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5475030575644112962" />

There were many other games, including one where three teammates and I had to get a letter written on our foot, then put on a big woolen sock and then four dudes fought us to get the sock off and see the letter. I fared a bit better at that game, but didn't get any pictures of it. This game next is a two man game. It's called 'shim shim shim'. So you say 'shim shim shim' then one guy with his hand tries to guess if you'll turn your head left, right or not at all. Keri and her friend Minji came out to Haengsin from Seoul and with Taylor we all headed to Ilsan to enjoy the beautiful day. It was warm and beautiful and we walked around the Western Dome and Lafesta malls and Lake Park. Feeling a powerful thirst from the warm weather we settled in front of a convenience store for some beers, then headed to my friend Jun's restaurant for dinner afterward. The restaurant specialized in fried pork and fish and I must say, it was mighty tasty. We all headed back to Haengsin to chill on my porch and listen to some tunes, then had an impromptu photo session:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-lWvGokGYlt6DyL4RbDhLRn2zIiuiXpDlvdNPLOtVDyATw8XcSTITu9BFMbHz7g0MGc5xxOG-kEDy4awqY7dun86VAtZJhGR098dtkwfclNFLZowlV0c2wDa8_Yd_IIeItgmLbriIIy0/s400/IMG_1212.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5474677789531138802" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHWqLTGDkRhdjdQsNmwQEj86-yMKvMWcNzLxJqSV6Bn7Rukhrg_BFy9dDBFlPr9PjmY3xXl5wjSKo_0ao71gZB0qY8Sbdho2o3wTk-gE6FFlWD2SS09VhVPEtEyx5LQ9YRuT0cNrB5XNo/s400/IMG_1216.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5474677951707990498" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgX8eZDQOuPU6ZcaptbxnIZwFUjEebeVDAOK8Loed1eH4HAVTAeq0oNlenRPk_Kd_eh5R80aG5_c18vwyCOLg2Sdqls9Qg-jKyijPYuqqPvbO1xmqmpcZY4hbCa668-cIM_abbsY2lEGWI/s400/IMG_1220.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5474447202583735810" />

Tomorrow I'll tell you about Saturday and the PTC overnight retreat I went on.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6163737689697792041.post-41132981333153235802010-05-19T11:51:00.007+09:002010-05-19T12:05:52.803+09:00The Lantern ParadeI headed to Seoul with my friend Taylor to meet up with my friend Keri and her brother at the lantern parade in Insadong. It was quite a scene. The parade starts at dusk and seemingly endless. Keri got there early and saved us some folding chairs right on the road, which was a cool vantage point. I was waving at the parade marchers like crazy and trying to get them to give me the peace sign, or hang loose, or devil's horns. It was the LG Twins versus the Kia Tigers. I asked In Hwan before the baseball season began who I should root for. He said he liked LG, but he said 'They have many fans but they usually do not win.' Just like the Cubs, I thought, so I became an LG fan. I lucked into an incredible game. We sad in the seats in right field, where you have to get there early to claim a seat because there isn't any assigned seating. I was late - it was really far from where I live and I still haven't gotten the Seoul Metro timing down. The tickets were $7 and beers in the stadium were $3 sold from a 7-11 like store in the park which also sold snacks. There was a KFC in the park too.

Before the game they had all kinds of contests and stuff, including this one I tried to capture where a guy had to carry his girlfriend or wife for about 50 feet, then answer a trivia question. That's what it seemed like anyway - I still don't know Korean:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIU3poHtdqcMwb6tJIJj31W6CnpUucNJd2K-lkRBIPkc7aOPtttB98CWGETF5XBcObSi4mpzTsRi_SC0l671T1PR0BfJ3BGp7rrS0iu2L2QbSMzfSzhK302XDUmaWovW1hyphenhyphenuJRnFsSfNs/s400/IMG_1170.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5470774096123936018" />

They have cheerleaders for the game. I mean hot girls in baseball-type dresses dancing all game long. It's incredible. They also cheer songs all game long. Each team has several songs, each player has a song, and different plays have a song (like if the pitcher throws to first too much they sing that he ought to throw home already). We had a cheering stage by us but there weren't any hot cheerleaders, just two famous super-fan dudes:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEit7MlB3kyBKDW8JPNZ5n2QlrRCRIflEqb-ShLKW7ef6JjTZqt8q8_VPjpumjNWacnsB1g2bTikpN6Vom6KB7flBjCw3L7LHCKZkTeyBQ99fEXAJIBOdlH6KsCQ48mhFrSpmpU9jvywVk0/s400/IMG_1171.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5470774475554460402" />

Kia fans were on one side and LG on the other. I'm not gonna lie - Kia was out cheering LG for a lot of the game. And they were the out of towners too.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsrsMduGToBrG8qj29zY-RV0eeRhdI0XGPo9y0pPJJhyphenhyphen_8mq-gd-OaE3whbHh38CQeBitMn7bUFNRJMG9Je__1r0-A6Wwsy4F7jX5yTSQORdcZ19L9Ph1hrjGd6Ph9NlhpDue7ljxWwa0/s400/IMG_1174.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5470775253052499506" />

This is a shot of the LG fan side. Everyone had those boomsticks and sang like crazy. It was pretty amazing. I love going to baseball games. LG was down 3-1 in the 9th and came back to win with two doubles, then a single to score 3 runs and instigate an on field celebration. Nothing beats that. An additional bonus is that Hee Seop Choi was there playing for the Tigers. He had a lousy game but it was nice to see him again.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifTCvZR4GXBGka8sx1XGwQ9WjejzNZn2f72YaCRI8FElJyDb-OhMR-fAol-LciA2Ob2qRJhWX-lMqjpWSSm8-egR5v96lMCszaYVXuQmdoCkWfDI2X7UbP4U3DDo-faciU_4fXxnVms-c/s400/IMG_1172.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5470776225066810418" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6163737689697792041.post-35859889238482377812010-05-11T14:48:00.011+09:002010-05-11T20:45:12.875+09:00Good weekend!On Saturday my friend Taylor and I went down to Seoul to meet my friend Keri for some drinks near Insadong, then some samgyeopsal. We had drinks at the Sam 1999 cafe. There was R. He convinced me to skip Haengsin and head straight to Ilsan to meet some friends out on the town. Well, we found out that the Gyeunggi line train's Ilsan stop takes you to a really strange area, way far from the fun area, Lafesta. After much waiting we finally snagged a taxi and met up with his friends. After the bar we decided that it'd be a great idea to grab more beer and sit out front of the convenience store. We ran into a rowdy group of Koreans that only wanted to talk with us and touch way too much, but they were fun. One guy looked like this Korean rapper, G-Dragon and didn't mind being called that by us. Can you believe such a thing exists? When I was a kid I remember asking my parents why there wasn't a kids' day. There's a mother's day and father's day, after all. 'Every day is kids' day,' was the standard reply from them. Well here the kids really do deserve a day off. They work really hard and go to way too much school. It ain't bad that the teachers get a nice midweek holiday as well.

I went out with my friend Taylor to Seoul to meet a Korean friend, Tae Eun. We drank soju and ate pig intestines and had a nice lively time. I learned a Korean term that is awesome. I actually first heard it last weekend at Pine Tree Club when Taylor was sitting next to Tae Eun at a bench table at a bar. Evidently Taylor's legs were spread too wide apart as to interfere with Tae Eun's comfort. 'Juk bul nham! Juk bul nham!' Tae Eun started yelling, then miming explained that it's when you sit with your legs too far apart. 'Like on metro train - juk bul nham!'

On Wednesday I was up early. I skyped with the folks in the morning, then headed out too see whether it was possible to rent a bike from one of the Goyang shared bike stands. I wanted to ride to Lake Park in Ilsan and Taylor wanted to join me, but doesn't have a bike. Bad luck - the user interface is all in Korean. So I rode alone and met him and a few friends who got their by bus in Lake Park. We had some beers in the park, then went out for Indian, then decided to hit the shooting range.

Yes, there is a shooting range in Ilsan. I asked the boys whether or not I could get a picture shooting there. My Irish friend Jude said, 'Well, it's quite serious when you get there so I don't know.' He was right. You walk into this joint that looks like a dentist office, but with a massive airbrushed picture of D'Angelo packing heat on the wall. You look through menus to choose your gun. I think I went with a Beretta. Then you're led into a room where they put a bullet proof vest on you, then to the range where the gun is supported by a bicycle chain so you can's ice yourself. You've got a Korean guy next to you who loads the gun and hands it to you, then grabs it from you immediately when your last shell is spent.

It was fun and kind of scary shooting. It turns out I'm a decent shot though. I got all ten shots on the target and one through the bullseye. I think I'd do better if I went again because I was quite nervous and shaky. Anyhow, here's the one picture I got, with the D'Angelo gun poster outside the joint. Till next time:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEht8Kj1ZTy-QmVaWZ1sEnAHCf2IWeNYmL_U5NzfimCnjniXBH_ZWYBMX5eaUzJU24pqd_DESY2i3ULRI2f-o8lNktKKoCxbwRu6LTbrI0I-5yKyNAkU0xYnz2tl1I89HUVHk2X5WolG5XA/s400/IMG_1135.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5468341466200863170" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwSnrlVyfpeXXGD1ajdj62vCC1tQCT3gix5EuSHFqcnYcfJwCLg31B7m-8PtlPyBG4YYYYzlhj2IUYbxW1-ZnwoEP5-c79PpXAv8irTpCRvzh2Vj1IaTE0N_j4xRPX_W2CHWMeNEcFb8Y/s400/IMG_1137.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5468391276520043506" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6163737689697792041.post-73042304262946754842010-04-29T14:04:00.003+09:002010-04-29T14:12:51.854+09:00Classroom talesKorean kids say some damn funny things in English. In my class yesterday one kid said to me 'Teacher there is USA man in my house. He is (gestures a huge stomach) fat and grandpa.' They love calling anyone older than them grandpa. They really don't like having that thrown back at them though. A kid in another one of my classes, who is kind of a brat, really needs glasses. He can never see the board. He's one of the kids who loves to try to ddongchim me (Korean shocker, literally 'shit needle') so I don't feel bad teasing him a little. I told him 'You have grandpa eyes' and mimed walking around with a hunched back and a cane. He came back with 'teacher you are bad. you you you...' then went into his cell phone dictionary and came up with 'tease, rib, make fun of'. I laughed and said, 'Yep, that's what I did!'

You really have a lot more latitude with the kids here though. For example you can tell them 'I'll kill you' and that's perfectly fine. In a couple classes I constantly threaten to throw them out the 5th floor window. If any of the kids are a little chubby the other kids will call them a pig all the time, with impunity. The pressure to conform is pretty crazy.

Anyhow, time to get to class. Here's a shot of 'World Express King of Hotel Game' I spotted in a toy store. It was right next to Monopoly:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIXdhqOxqI4Z_UMm51v7kIo5euWLNoN7n5rPhKBcHRggFY5nmZbkC9PIELqlWEplHMJupIGKehyphenhyphen1JeC-WRCApnJNP_eu5K5HYViHhdXUwo8TMSuKF2VES7x7gpXy2gKHN7sFTGZ4vc9UQ/s400/IMG_1132.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465422640395342978" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6163737689697792041.post-89768670059737885432010-04-27T13:52:00.002+09:002010-04-27T14:04:49.081+09:005 months!I'll have been in Korea for 5 months in a couple days, if you can believe it. That means my contract is nearly half over, which is awesome. I like my job, don't get me wrong, but I don't get time off really at all. I keep asking the director when I get time off in the summer, and she always replies 'Maybe at the end of July.' That is a very Korean thing to say, I've learned. Everything is 'maybe' and the waeguks are largely kept in the dark.

I'm trying to coordinate when my brother will come visit, so 'maybe' kind of sucks. So I asked my co-teacher Joanne Teacher when we'll get time off. 'Maybe at the end of July.' 'But when will we know for sure?' I asked. 'Maybe in July.' AAAAAH! We only get one week too! It's like working a contract job in America. The recruiting company promised me 2 weeks but I've also learned that things change here, and the contracts don't really seem to mean shit to the schools. Oh well, the pay is good, I'm saving money and my wardrobe is about 300% fresher than it was in the US already. Skinny everything!

I rode my bike to Ilsan on a Sunday. It was a beautiful day - sunny and about 65. I went to the Lake Park there where there was a flower festival going on. I've never seen a park so full of people. There were Koreans everywhere walking super slow in the wrong lane on the path, stopping for no reason right in front of me, taking photos of everything, and clumped under every spot of shade hanging out. I pulled up a spot in the sun next to the lake, parked the bike, balled up my sweatshirt for a pillow and lay in the sun reading. Beautiful.

After about an hour a group of waeguks pulled up chatting loudly in American accents and sitting in a little circle picnicking. A thought flashed across my mind that I ought to ask if I could join them. I couldn't find a single friend to hang out with that day, so why not make some more friends, right? Instead I got up, brushed the grass off myself, put my stuff in my bag and stared at them as I walked off, as a couple of them stared back. Yeah, I'm getting real weird.

I walked to the big plaza by Lafesta in Ilsan, Lafesta being this big shopping area. The cats from Falun Gong were protesting Chinese torture of members with their usual array of horrifying pictures of corpses and buttholes burned by cattle prods and the like. They were also meditating en masse in the plaza listening to creepy music, so I took a picture of them with a MTB biker wandering in the foreground for good measure:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDWbtT9GYil5GImfexSYyaanR8clmFqiP5BK0G2QmFsb7sw0AkFlk1hGG5BYd2RrfITPqxkKU_3K5FeolkVMbIkxxK8JqDRoyEfGVcM1ntgp2HL9MEHiabY_74dqNSkIKlOwZ-hnfA5RQ/s400/IMG_1134.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464678704095253378" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6163737689697792041.post-46877632632017725212010-04-20T15:02:00.006+09:002010-04-20T15:11:44.444+09:00Flowers/I'm a heroThe weather is really starting to get nice here, at last. It might be the most annoying thing in the world - right up there with saliva at the corner of your mouth when you talk or whistling when you say your s's, but I've been having the weirdest dreams lately. I dreamed my awesome orange folding bike got stolen and then I found it on the street being wheeled by a dude. I explained the situation to him and offered to buy it back from him for 50,000 won, the price he told me he'd paid for it. I know Korea has gotten to me when I'm talking won in my dreams instead of dollars. He wouldn't budge because he wanted the bike to destroy in this big clamp machine he had. He explained it was some kind of catharsis. It was pretty much like Pee Wee Herman's nightmare in Pee Wee's Big Adventure.

So I woke up with a start like from a nightmare, thinking my bike had been crushed in this bicycle sadist's machine, but much relieved to know I was in bed and it was in the hallway waiting for me to ride. Phew! Then I thought, I ought to tell people about this and post pictures of bikes in Goyang with it. Then I thought it was dumb, but then later I decided to do it anyway. So without further ado, some of the two wheeled wonders of Goyang-dong. Oh funny side note, 'dong' means 'city' but 'ddong' means 'poop'.

Goyang's bike sharing program, brand new, called 'Let's Fifteen!' Taylor said they had an open seat and so last Saturday morning we took the bus to Ilsan and met up with Jun and Min Oh for a road trip East for surfing. We drove through the mountainous middle of Korea to the other side on the east coast near the northern border. It was cold and there weren't any waves, but we did stay in Min Oh's company's kickass apartment. The highlight was definitely the fish market. It was utter chaos - mongers getting out in front of you and throwing live octopi on the ground for you to gape at. Tons of crabs, live fish and pretty much anything you can imagine scooped from the ocean for your consumption. I didn't see another waeguk (foreign teacher) the whole time.

We ate some super spicy soup here at the 38th Parallel cafe:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3yytC1HQt-vgBCMUdeC2eHeUsm8IV-nKF1C_bKXeUjIMW62bw3HGpYslPAblKjEYYfdeKsuYz-3ZcN9alF0FQFqOqw37Syb1PWho0VwgVaxqgQToCGF9axe-nw5smslt0225gxjlZqHA/s400/IMG_1080.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5456901791056631202" />

The restaurant was empty but the food was great and the view was incredible:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJPK8rMLq1SA9j86X-jcVZAVzple1V5sXizhVwaa8RzS-Gx2mrv_1VIplmc8mVeU-3cCuIY2-UdcdPXJIUjIEdirY0Lat2Q3rgfE4GjvXdaffeP3F6CjL4V1zbvGc0zRW0bsCgcM07Qas/s400/IMG_1082.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5456902020262587138" />

I decided against drinking the wiener tea:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVPmYQRYz7pHJNTUIDq88Zof3pTy-QZxRiaVEFGP1eeNm4qvVJCaDBJpx4HhA51g_3NlBSC307KCGtxyE7KlqZ9W80bllZTMfHndLP9YmqDBGIIQquQFbx74zOoaLi3nq788bBhL5OSnk/s400/IMG_1087.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5456902311316235906" />

Fishing boats adjacent to the market:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvVi-6JPb7IqIKDKCJXTHpoUzIZdVwol0dUJoSwDA6YlTZeVsQJImUDLLpkIbJh4JSPVdWcVLwx5oip5arYd8YdCs_PjNkdIFFLUm-e1vX2tw98ic-P-mhNI1-HPs1TQZqzaQXcTa97SE/s400/IMG_1095.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5456902818671956418" />

This lady was selling taffy, crying out 'Taffy! It's delightful. We had a lesson on what you like to eat, and the kids were supposed to be reading a dialogue 'I like this' or 'I don't like that'. The kids love to change all the dialogue. If it says 'I like' they'll say 'I hate', or 'I don't like', then laugh their asses off. A lot of times they'll make up their own funny thing like 'I like poison teacher!' 'I like kill teacher!' One kid today said 'I like head!' with the brightest, most earnest smile. I nearly died laughing. 'I like eat head!' He meant eating a human head, but that didn't make it better, kid.

My name in Hangul, by the students:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0vtY400FcaBJ8ugnQpa6696gjyaS7bGUcEQMN_NQSARQxkBcZC-G5nH2RZ43C3SOHvqxqThyM3ZxIHrJX3lG4xSz04lUZ0E-NTZCmrDR508PtF_7FyplgIBV4YCqP5F3uJl4UYnrEM9M/s400/IMG_1070.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454814368764523922" />

Photo of me, thanks to Ken student:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0G4K5gin5wcsIVLdI07nkkdSu1HBTz9AhGr6lby8CIHVu3nD7J3Db2BY94WeXpKBQr7zNif66VKn0I_kh_i7VC_RIxa50w0ZNR6JZdj8bZltG-aCYDDtGzOIE30eleZ8wZ9aFZi_j790/s400/IMG_1077.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454814860120730178" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1
